10. The most authentic snacks in Shenzhen, priced at as little as 15 yuan per serving! A pot full of meat looks greedy
My first meal in Shenzhen was beef offal. My aunt and her husband sold beef offal in Hong Kong for many years, and then moved to Shenzhen. Business is booming now. When you come here, you can see one pot, two pots, three or four pots, full of meat!
I got a beef offal, but I don’t want rice noodles, just the meat kind. I put the radish on it, cut the beef brisket, tripe, and intestines, and scooped the radish and broth. This bowl is complete. My aunt also gave me free rice noodles to eat during the trip. It was full of meat and rice noodles, which was satisfying (๑¯∀¯๑)

1. New Shenzhen subreddit for advertising.
Hi all,
I have been playing with the idea of a separate subreddit just for advertising products and services. I have created r/ShenzhenMarketplace. This is specifically for advertising, so if you are offering a particular product or service, or are looking for a particular product or service, post it in r/ShenzhenMarketplace.
What cannot be posted is anything illegal under the laws of the People's Republic of China or Reddit rules in general.
No advertising or posting for personal blogs, vlogs, or any influencers, as is the case in this subreddit. This is going to be strictly enforced in both subreddits moving forward. Nobody is really interested in your particular hot take, and I've personally seem some terrible ones.
Advertising or reviews for bars, clubs, restaurants, hotels, parks, massage (legal ones please) would be most welcome in the r/ShenzhenMarketplace sub.
It would be helpful if you put in the title of the post what your intent is (example: For Sale, Seeking for, For rent, etc.) and then some description following (Blenders, pianos, 2 bedroom) and then the details in the body of the post. Details are important and posts may be deleted if they have minimal content.
DO NOT SPAM THE SUBREDDIT. Posting the same thing every day will not be allowed. Consider that three days or more for the same content will be the most allowed.
ONE LAST POINT: Since there is a specific subreddit for advertising far, far grey area posts will be allowed here. This subreddit should be more focused on life and interest in Shenzhen.
Thanks everyone and let's see how this goes.
2. Seeing such cleanliness, order, and efficiency in a public hospital in Shenzhen
Shenzhen’s medical system is incredibly advanced and well-organized, making health check-ups smooth and efficient for everyone.
Today, I visited a Class III Grade A public hospital in Bao'an,Shenzhen for a blood test. Witnessing the high efficiency and cleanliness of the current medical system, I saw smart service robots guiding you around the hospital, clear step-by-step instructions for every process (like blood draws), and even a grand piano in the lobby providing a stress-free waiting experience. This is the modern, patient-centered healthcare service you can find in Shenzhen.

3. Layover in Shenzhen international airport
Hello!
I’m flying tomorrow from Bangkok to Spain with an almost 10 hours layover in Shenzhen. What would be the best: exit the airport or sitting in the lounge and wait 2 am for my flight?
Also, I was not able to understand if there are any smoking area inside the airport, so any insight on this would be also appreciated.
Thank you!

1. 3 bedroom, preferably with a pool, how much should I expect to pay?
Apologies if this has been posted ad nauseam here, i’m just trying to get as much information as possible. I’m looking to moving to Shenzhen next year to learn Mandarin, to that end I’ll be visiting next month, and looking for apts, neighborhoods, etc.
My question is how much should I expect to pay for a nice apt close to Shenzhen University. I’d like to have something with around 3 bd, aircon, a pool, gym, etc. Not over-the-top luxe, but still, pretty nice
I’m currently visiting HCMC in Vietnam and I’m paying around 3k (USD) for a very nice place, and I keep hearing comments that prices are somewhat similar. So wdyt?
Thanks a lot!!

3. Am i going crazy with China mattress?
i have been living in China for 7 years and i have never slept well, i bought different beds myself as the ones in the apartments i moved are literally hard tables so i always tell the landlord to take it and i will have my own one..
i have tried, foam ones, with toppers. memory foam beds these years, i visited many furnitures shop and i spent 3000rmb in one , 2 years ago, i really tried it in that store it seemed so comfortable but when it arrived to my house i spent 1 year and. half waking up with back pain. And supposedly it was very soft. is like my muscles were stretched when i lie down.
i sold it, and then a week ago i bought another one for 3000rmb, from Somnipro. i went to the fair in Shenzhen of house stuff and tried different beds. That one seemed so soft similar to the one i have in Spain. literally i wake with a lot of pain in the back. since the first day is the same pain i had with the old one, so its not about taking time to get used to
Because i sleep better in my sofa, that is just a bad quality foam, or everytime i go to Spain i sleep so well in my old mattress
why is so hard to find soft and comfortable mattress ., and in Spain we have cheap and comfortable ones like 250-400 euros. I always can sleep ok.
But in China if you want a soft and good you really need to spend a fortune. they are above 5000rmb .And im really so tired.I even foubd a Spanish brand in one of those furnitures shops but its luxury 12000 and above...
i went to Ikea and tried all of them, i feel they are also done for the Chinese market . .the only one that seemed ok is the Valevag, named like that..
My bed is a whdole wood frame panel, so i dont know if that would affect , even hotels bed seems more comfortable at this point.
i dont want to spend a fortune in a bed as i dont know how long will i stay here.i even went to some factories ,i really liked one, but their policy does not let the beds be returned, so i did not buy that one.
i am a side sleeper, but then m

5. Which area(s) are the Tech Startups based?
Hi there, I'm currently visiting Shenzhen. I'm a software developer and I'm working on a startup around supply chain management, and here for a week. I would like to maybe go to a coworking space or an incubator accelerator where I can kind of liaise with startups and tech companies. Any recommendations would be much appreciated.
6. Good hair salons?
Going to Shenzhen in a few months and planning to get my hair cut and colored. I don’t speak Mandarin but my parent does so that’s not a huge issue.
Here in the UK, the Chinese hair salons function like sweatshops lol and I always come out with the same blunt, Asian bob no matter what. I’ve had better luck with Japanese salons but they charge a fortune.
Are there any more up to date salons in Shenzhen that cater to a younger clientele and can do “edgier” styles? That won’t make me go broke?
7. Spa / massage recommendation in Shekou

Also do you have recommended cafe for chills and enjoying scenery?

2. Partner struggling to find teaching job due to appearance bias — realistic to find one after arriving in Shenzhen?
Hey everyone,
I’m looking for some honest advice or experiences from people who’ve been in a similar situation.
I’ve recently accepted a teaching job in Shenzhen starting this August. This move has actually been a long-term plan for both me and my girlfriend—we’ve been working towards this for years while she finished her university degree, and now that we’re finally at the point where we can go, things have become a lot more uncertain than we expected.
She has a British passport, a bachelor’s degree, and a TEFL, so on paper she meets all the requirements. However, she’s been really struggling to get responses from schools while applying from the UK. One thing we’ve noticed (and been told directly) is that her Asian background seems to be working against her, as some schools appear to prefer “Western-looking” teachers, which has been quite disheartening.
Our current plan, if she doesn’t secure something before August, is for her to come out to Shenzhen with me and try to find a job in person. (Advice from my recruiter)
I wanted to ask:
• Has anyone here (or their partner) actually done this—arrived in China without a job and then successfully found one locally?
• Does being physically in China significantly improve chances, or is that overstated?
• What’s the most effective way to job hunt once you’re there (WeChat groups, recruiters, walking into schools, etc.)?
Thanks a lot in advance 🙏
